Scope of this page. The page (slug
xinet, formerlynorthplains) covers the DAM products of the former Northplains Systems (Toronto). The only one still marketed is Xinet, an on-premise digital asset management and creative production-workflow server. Since February 2021 it has belonged to IgniteTech, part of the ESW Capital group. Xinet runs on the customer's own Linux server. It exposes assets through mounted network volumes (AFP/SMB), a PHP web front end (Xinet Portal, with the "Marquee" and "Exhibit" themes), a desktop client (Xinet Pilot) and Adobe InDesign/Illustrator plug-ins. Workflows are automated with server-side Trigger Sets and Actions. Its typical users are advertising agencies, printers and prepress shops, publishers, retailers and in-house creative studios. Northplains' other DAM, Telescope (enterprise repository, SOAP API), and its cloud platform NEXT are no longer marketed. They are covered below for history and for existing customers. Xinet has no public API reference, OpenAPI file, webhooks or MCP server; its developer documentation is behind a partner login.

Positioning
- IgniteTech positions Xinet as a "pure-play" DAM plus production/workflow system: fast search, creative workflow automation (custom triggers, versioning, approvals), editing in place through mounted drives and the Adobe CC plug-in without check-in/check-out, project dashboards, and assets kept inside the customer's network S1 S2.
- Its historical niche is work-in-progress creative and prepress production: FPO/OPI image replacement, print queues and hot folders, colour-managed previews, linked-file tracking for InDesign layouts S2 S8. Real Story Group (2012) saw Xinet as mainly a prepress workflow and automation tool with strong Adobe integration, and TeleScope as a database-centric repository that was weaker on workflow S72.
- Target users per vendor material: creative and digital agencies, in-house production departments, marketing firms, publishers, retailers and packaging S59. The legacy xinet.com site listed advertising, marcom/enterprise, retail, publishing and prepress as solution areas S68.
- Distribution: historically sold and implemented through Authorized Xinet Integrators (AXIs), a worldwide partner channel S69 S59 S9.
- Product activity: IgniteTech still ships releases (2025.5.16, 2025.8.5, 2025.12.19, 2026.02.27, 2026.03.21, 2026.04.16, 2026.06.15, 2026.07.09, 2026.09.08) S32 S33 S34 S35 S36 S47. Most of these releases are maintenance and platform work: RHEL 9 migration, MySQL 8, Samba and macOS compatibility, licensing. The only recent functional addition is the AI tagging add-on S75. The public online help stops at 19.2.1 (index last modified 2020-05-01) S7.
- Under the Aclate/IgniteTech model, Xinet came with "IgniteTech Unlimited" bundles and support tiers. Aclate's "Prime" offer (2021) unlocked every Aclate product under one subscription S64 S75.
Pricing & licensing
- Quote-only: no price list or edition list is published S1 S2. Not public.
- Licensing model: a single licence string, tied to the server's hardware ID, activates every licensed Xinet component S24 S15. The licence summary shows the maximum number of concurrent AFP users S24. One Portal licence allows any number of Portal servers against one production server S11. 2025.8.5 introduced a new licence mechanism: only licences generated by Customer Support work S35. Help-center article titles mention a 2026-07-04 maximum expiry date for licences on older versions (v16–v20) S47 (article bodies are behind login).
- Support: IgniteTech support programme with Platinum, Gold and Standard tiers (2024); consulting is reserved for Platinum customers S75. Release notes invite customers to upgrade their support plan to "Unlimited Program" features S35 S36.
- No free trial or public sandbox. IgniteTech offers a contact form ("Speak with an IgniteTech Expert") S1. The legacy Xinet Developer Program sold time-limited, watermarked SDK licences to integrators S68 Unverified (page © 2007–2013).
Security & compliance
- Certifications: none published for Xinet or by IgniteTech for this product (no trust center found) S1 S4. The help center states that "Xinet is GDPR compliant", without detail S45.
- Hosting & data residency: customer-controlled (on-premise). Encryption at rest, SLA and data residency depend on the customer's own infrastructure. Vendor-side commitments: Not public.
- SSO / identity: SAML 2.0 single sign-on for the Xinet server, Portal sites, PORTALADMIN and Pilot, built on a Xinet-modified Apache
mod_auth_mellonmodule (since 19.1 on macOS, also on Linux) S19 S14. Enabling SAML replaces local authentication; running both needs two Apache virtual hosts (unsupported workaround) S43. Portal also supports Active Directory, Open Directory or LDAP S11. AD integration on RHEL 9 goes through PAM/SSSD or winbind S44. SCIM: Unknown (not documented). - Access control: Access Control Lists (ACLs) combine users, IP addresses/subnets, hostnames and other ACLs. They control access to the admin view, to High-Res/FPO/Web views of volumes and browser access to sites S23. Per-user permission sets and templates are covered in Features S8.
- Portal as a security layer: Portal sits between users and the production server. It passes credentials only at first login (session-based), filters requests against known rules, can encrypt Portal-to-server traffic with SSL, and can call a third-party antivirus to quarantine uploads S11.
- Security maintenance: the 2026.07.09 release and later help-center articles address XSS findings from security scans and a Log4j CVE reported against the bundled Solr S47. The 19.x releases fixed Ghostscript and XSS issues S14.
