Acquia DAM is the SaaS digital asset management platform that Acquia, the Boston-based Drupal company, obtained by acquiring Widen Enterprises in September 2021; until the 2023 rebrand it was sold as the Widen Collective, and the docs still call it "Acquia DAM (Widen)". It aims at marketing, brand and product teams from mid-sized organizations to large enterprises. It combines a metadata-driven asset library with an add-on PIM (Entries), branded Portals, proofing (Workflow), web-to-print Templates, analytics (Insights) and an AI layer. The REST API (v2 and v1) is documented in public OpenAPI specs, webhooks are managed through the API, and a read-only MCP server has been available since mid-2026.

Positioning

  • Pitched as an AI-assisted enterprise DAM to "move faster" and "stay on brand": natural-language search, AI enrichment at upload, portals/microsites, templates, video creation, product catalogs, workflows and rights governance S20 S21.
  • Distinctive scope for a DAM: a built-in PIM (Entries, with channels and channel portals) and proofing workflow in the same tenant, with one REST API covering assets, products and workflow projects S18 S1.
  • Part of Acquia's digital experience platform: native Drupal connector included in every tier, and DAM bundled in the Acquia Source SaaS CMS S19 S73. At acquisition time Acquia said Widen would remain a standalone product while being integrated with Drupal S60.
  • Ecosystem claims: "80+ pre-built integrations" and "nearly 300 integrations" on the product page; 98 Acquia DAM entries in Acquia Exchange (2026-10-01) S20 S37.
  • Market view: Forrester's Q1 2026 evaluation credits the video editor with AI scripting/subtitling/translation and a partner network of almost 1,000 S67; an analyst quoted at acquisition said Widen positioned Acquia against Adobe S60. Typical competitors cited alongside it in 2026 Wave coverage: Aprimo, Bynder, Orange Logic, Adobe, OpenText S67.
